Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate the students’ perceptions and the problem of using the U-dictionary application to increase pronunciation in independent learning. The first objective of this research is to find out students’ perceptions of using the U-dictionary application to increase pronunciation in independent learning. This study was qualitative research. The subject was the Third Semester of the English Education Department of UIN Salatiga 2021/2022. To obtain the data, the researcher used a questionnaire, interview, and documentation. The data was analyzed and interpreted through the qualitative procedure. The findings indicated that the students had positive perceptions, such as the U-dictionary application is an effective and worth it independent learning application, provides comfortable independent learning, improves students’ enthusiasm in learning pronunciation, and is highly needed for learning pronunciation in independent learning. However, in applying the U-dictionary application to learning pronunciation through independent learning, there were problems that students faced. There were some of the problems faced by the students such as insufficient internet facilities, unclear voice, and Many ads.
