Abstract

Suryanto, Dodi. 2023. Students' Speaking Anxiety and Their Self-Efficacy in Practicing Speaking at Communicative English Club of State Islamic University of Salatiga. A Graduating Paper. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. English Education Department. Salatiga State Islamic University. Counselor: Nur Muthmainnah, M.Pd. This research was conducted to find out the correlation of students’ speaking anxiety and their self-efficacy in practicing speaking. This study used a quantitative correlation method. The research was carried out at Communicative English Club. 30 students participated in this research. In this research, data were collected using a questionnaire to measure students’ speaking anxiety and their self-efficacy in practicing speaking. The research finding discovered that the level of students’ speaking anxiety that 16 of 30 respondents are low with an average score of 51 which falls into the low category. Then, students’ self-efficacy is classified as a low 14 of 30 respondents are with an average score of 29 which falls into the low category. The researcher investigated there is a correlation between students’ speaking anxiety and their self-efficacy in practicing speaking based on the results of calculations using Pearson Product Moment in SPSS 24. The correlation coefficient is 0.480. Because the r-count is higher than the r-table (0.480 > 0.374), these findings show that there is a correlation between students’ speaking anxiety and their self-efficacy in practicing speaking. The statistical hypothesis answers that "there is a correlation between students’ speaking anxiety and their self-efficacy in practicing speaking." As a result, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected.
