Abstract

This research presents the analysis of bilingual education implementation in the International Class Program (ICP) of UIN Salatiga, focusing on a case study of students from the batch of 2019. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing questionnaires and interviews to collect data from 18 students of ICP. The study aims to explore the students' experiences and perceptions of bilingual education in order to gain insights into its effectiveness based on the participants’ reflection that occured in the questionnaire and interviews. The findings of this study shed light on the systematic approach by using theory as a guide used to compile data in the implementation of bilingual education. The program emphasizes the use of both Indonesian and English languages in various contexts, including classroom instruction, extracurricular activities, events, and the dormitory setting. The students generally expressed positive opinions about bilingual development within the program and the program have received support from internal and external institutions. The advantages of bilingual education, as identified by the students, include the improvement of language skills in both Indonesian and English, individual development, exposure to global perspectives and cultural diversity, and enhanced language acquisition. However, the study also highlights several disadvantages that exist within the program. These disadvantages include variations in lecturers' English proficiency, difficulties in lecturer adaptation, management issues, and limitations on the applicability of bilingualism across all subjects.
