Abstract
Nur Wenda, Alvin. 2023. The Effectiveness of Cake Application for Speaking Skills. (A Quasi Experimental Research at the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 5 Salatiga in the Academic Year 2022/2023). A Graduating Paper, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, English Education Department, University for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counsellor: Dra. Widyastuti, M.Pd. Students are on the edge of a revolution in technology, also known as industry revolution 4.0. Rather than focusing purely on rote memorization, it is better to create an effective learning method which includes technological media. Therefore, students must be able to find their learning methods and appropriate media to facilitate effective and enjoyable learning. This research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of Cake Application to increase students' speaking skill learning at SMP Negeri 5 Salatiga in the academic year 2022/2023. This investigation is quasi-experimental, and the population consists of 45 eighth-grade students from SMP Negeri 5 Salatiga. This research population consists of 25 students from the experimental class and 20 students from the comparison class. The researcher used media from the Cake Application for students' learning at home. The researcher did not give the treatment to the participants in the comparison group. Two weeks they had been given treatment. The research instrument consisted of pre-and post-testing. The data collected through the examination were analyzed using SPSS version 22. At the end of the research, the researcher drew the following conclusions: According to the results of the independent sample t-test, it can be concluded that the researcher's hypothesis that there is a significant development in speaking skills when students use the Cake application for speaking skills is valid. A significant effectiveness difference exists between the t-test (3.997) and the t-table (2.016). It suggests that the t-test accepts alternative hypotheses (Ha). Consequently, the null hypothesis (H0) cannot be supported. It indicates a difference between before and after treatment using the Cake Application to improve the students' autonomous speaking skills. Key Terms: Cake Application, Speaking Skill.
