Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the significant correlation between students’ translation accuracy and writing ability at the Third Semester Students of English Education Department of UIN Salatiga in the academic year 2021/2022. There are 2 objectives of this research, the first one is to understand the students’ translation ability and writing ability at the third semester of English Education Department batch 2021 of UIN Salatiga. The second is to find out the significant correlation of students’ translation accuracy and writing ability at the third semester of English Education Department batch 2021 of UIN Salatiga. The method use in this research is a Quantitative Method with the design of this research is Correlational Research. The population of the research was the Third Semester Students of English Education Department of UIN Salatiga in the academic year 2021/2022 which consist of 30 samples. The technique was Simple Random Sampling and the data were collected by the test of translation accuracy and writing ability. The researcher used SPSS25 to analyze the data. The result of this study shows that the average of translation accuracy test is 93.40 and the average of writing ability test is 91.87. Based on the calculation using SPSS25, the correlation coefficient was 0.455 at the significant level of 5% (0.05), which means the r-count is higher than the r-table (0,455 > 0,361). The correlation coefficient (0.455) was within the interval 0.400–0.590, meaning the interpretation of correlation could be categorized as moderate correlation. Based on the result, it could be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Therefore, there was a significant correlation between students’ translation accuracy and writing ability in educational article at the third semester students of EED batch 2021 of UIN Salatiga.
