Abstract

Khoiri, Siti Azzizatun Nisa’ul. 2023. The Effectiveness of Collaborative Writing Using Google Docs in Teaching Writing Recount Text at the Eighth Grade of SMPN 2 Tuntang in the Academic Year 2022/2023. A graduating paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Islamic University of Salatiga. Counselor: Nur Muthmainnah, M.Pd. The aims of this study are: (1) To find the differences among students’ English writing skill of recount text before and after being taught using collaborative writing withGoogle Docs; (2) To find out whether collaborative writing using Google Docs is effective in teaching recount text or not. This research used preexperimental research in quantitative method. The techniques of collecting data used test; they were pre-test and post-test, which consisted of essays. The pre-test was tested before treatment and the post-test was tested after treatment. The data was analyzed using t-test formula by comparing the sig-2 tailed of the pre-test and post-test using SPSS 25 for Windows. The result of this research showed that there was a significant difference between the mean scores of pre-test and posttest. The mean score of post-test was higher than the mean scoreof pre-test. (1) The mean score of pre-test before the treatment was 57.53, and 36 students (95%) of total students were classified into enough ability to write recount text, while the mean score of post-test was 81.71 and 24 students (63%) of the total students were into good ability in writing recount text. So, there were the differences among students’ English writing skills of recount text before and after being taught using collaborative writing with Google Docs. (2) The result of the T-test at significance level of 0.05 showed that the significant values (sig-2 tailed) were 0.00 lower than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05). It can be concluded that collaborative writing using Google Docs is effective in teaching writing recount text at the eighth grade of SMPN 2 Tuntang in the academic year 2022/2023.
