Abstract

​This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 6 Salatiga. This research aimed to find out the improvement between contextual teaching and learning approach in improving their simple past tense mastery at 7th-grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Salatiga in The Academic Year 2022/2023. The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR). This research had two variables: contextual teaching-learning approach and Student's simple past tense mastery. The population of this research all the 7th grade of SMP Negeri 6 Salatiga in The Academic Year 2022/2023. The sample 26 students of 7H who taken using a cluster sampling technique. The data was collected through tests, observation and documentation. The result significantly improved the Student's average in the pre-test and post-test. Students' average in pre-test I improved from 24.61 to 76.54 in post-test I or improved 51.93, while pre-test II and post-test II was 58.07 to 86.53 or improved 28.46. It means contextual teaching and learning approaches can improve students' simple past tense mastery for the 7th grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Salatiga in The Academic Year 2022/2023.
