Abstract

The objectives of this research are to find out how TGT method can improve the students’ writing skill and to know the significant improvement using TGT method to the students’ writing skill especially in recount text. The subject of this research was VIII A Class student of MTs Negeri 12 Boyolali in the academic year of 2022/2023, which consists of 31 students. The methodology of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). There were two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four steps. They were planning, action, observing, reflecting. The data collected through observation, pre-test, post-test, and documentation. The result of the research shows that there was an improvement of students’ writing skill in recount text by the use of TGT method. It shown the total of the score of pre-tests cycle I is 61,48 and the percentage of minimum passing grade is 19,3%. Cycle I show that the score of post-tests is 69,0 with the percentage of minimum passing grade is 45,2%. Meanwhile, cycle II showed that the pre-test score was 68,70 and the percentage of minimum passing grade is 51,6% and the post-test score is 74,93 with the percentage of minimum passing grade is 83,8%.
