Abstract

ABSTRACT Rofi’ah, Siti. 2023. Classroom Management Applied by Teacher to Teach Vocabulary at SMPN 4 Ambarawa in the Academic Year 2022/2023. A graduating paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Mr. Hammam, Ph.D. Teaching vocabulary requires very high technique and creativity for a teacher. The teacher must be creative and have good strategy in manage the classroom to create conducive and productive classroom environment, especially if the male students are more than female students. Good classroom management strategy used by teacher in teaching vocabulary can make easier for students to understand lessons and the teaching objectives can achieved. This study aimed to describe the teachers’ classroom management strategy to teach vocabulary and to describe how the process of teaching vocabulary. Therefore, descriptive qualitative research method was chosen and this study carried out at SMPN 4 Ambarawa. The subject of this study was English teachers and three students from seventh, eighth, and nineth grade of SMPN 4 Ambarawa. This study conducting interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings of this study are twofold: first, the classroom management used by teacher to teach vocabulary was divided into five aspects; physical design of classroom, rules and routines, relationship among students-teachers, engaging and motivating instructions, and discipline. Second, the process of teaching vocabulary. Second, the process of teaching vocabulary was divided into three sessions. Before, during, and after the lessons. Before the lesson, English teacher managing the classroom such as organize the physical design of classroom. The teacher used traditional row and sometimes used U-shape. After that prayer then the teacher checking attendance list of the students and ensure the students in sitting position. During the lesson, the teacher give material to the students and explain with clearly language so that the students can understanding the material easier. Also, the teacher must keep the classroom conducive during the lesson. To make it easier for students to understand the material given by teacher, the teacher used learning media such as English book, songs, sound box, picture, board, and real thing. Teacher also used learning method such as writing, playing games, listening to music, memorizing, translation, reading, and speaking, so that students can easily understand the vocabulary material given by teachers. After the lesson. The teacher give assignment to the students as an evaluation to find out the student’s understanding of the material given by the teacher.
