Abstract

The objectives of the research were to find out the profile of the students’ reading comprehension in narrative text before and after implementing STAD method and to to find out the result of the use of STAD method to enhance students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh-grade students of SMK N 1 Tengaran in the academic year 2022/2023. This research was a quasi experimental research. The technique of collecting data were test and documentation. There were two kinds of test which were used, those were pre-test and post-test. The subjects of this research were two classes of the eleventh-grade students at SMK N 1 Tengaran. It considered 67 students. The data was tested using t-test formula by comparing the mean score of pre- and post-test from both groups. The significance level was setted up 5%. The result of the research showed that, first, the students‟ profile were different before and after implementing STAD method. The mean of pre-test was 70.58 while the mean of post-test was 83.82. The difference between pre- and post-test mean was 13.24. Second, the result showed that T-test (to) 5.46 was higher than T-table (tt) 2.03 with the degree of freedom (df) 33. Therefore, there was significant difference after implementing STAD method toward students‟ reading comprehension in narrative text. Moreover, the effect size of experiment group was 1.26 which showed that using STAD method gave strong effect on students‟ reading comprehension.
