Abstract

Widyasari, Ira. 2023. The Implementation of Student-Centered Learning (SCL) To Improve English Vocabulary For Young Learners At Sudirman Kindergarten Tingkir Salatiga. A Graduating Paper. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. English Education Department. State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Hanung Triyoko, S.S., M.Hum., M.Ed. The research is about the use of student-centered learning (SCL) to improve students’ vocabulary mastery of the group A and B students of Sudirman Kindergarten Tingkir Lor Salatiga in the academic year 2023/2024. The objectives of the research are how to Applying student-centered learning model to improve understanding of English vocabulary for early childhood and to figure out what are the strength and weaknesses of the use of student-centered learning (SCL) models at Sudirman Kindergarten Tingkir Salatiga. The method of the research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). There were two cycles; each cycle considered of four steps, they were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The result of the research shows that the implementation of student-centered learning to improve vocabulary mastery for the group A and B students of Sudirman Kindergarten Tingkir Lor Salatiga in the academic year of 2023/2024 was successful. It can be seen the students attention, activeness, enthusiasm, and participation. The students who passed the passing grade improved gradually from cycle I and cycle II. The improvement was showed in each cycle which presented pre-test and post-test. The result of the T-test of the cycle II was 5,55 which was higher than T-table: 2,07 with N-1. The passing grade of the lesson was 75 and the success indicator was 85%. The outcome of the post-test of the cycle II was 90,30% of the total number of the students. The success indicator was achieved, so the researcher stopped the research. Thus, the implementation of student-centered learning (SCL) proved that it could significantly improve the students’ vocabulary mastery.
