Abstract

Alya, Riqqah Mala, 2023.Teachers’ Challenges and Methods of Teaching English to Young Learners at MI Ma’arif Pulutan Salatiga. Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teachers Training and Education Faculty. State Islam Univercity Salatiga. Counselor: Aprilian Ria Adisti, M.Pd. This research aims to investigate the teachers’ challenges and methods of Teaching English to Young Learners at MI Ma’arif Pulutan Salatiga. Generally, this research has two main questions: (1) What are the challenges faced by the teacher of Teaching English to Young Learners at MI Ma’arif Pulutan Salatiga? (2) What are the methods used by the teacher of Teaching English to Young Learners at MI Ma’arif Pulutan Salatiga? This research was qualitative. The subjects of this research were 5 English teachers in teaching English to young learners at MI Ma'arif Pulutan Salatiga. Interviews were used to collect the data. The data was analyzed and interpreted through a qualitative research procedure. The findings indicate that most teachers have challenges while teaching English to young learners and they have their methods to overcome it. Their challenges are such as challenges in classroom conditions, characteristics, age transition, determining methods, arranging conditions, lack of confidence, learning interest, and limited time. Overall, the teachers applied a variety of methods such as singing a song, playing games, English corner method, drilling, lecturing, and grouping.
