Abstract

Abstract Irmatiara. 2023. An Analysis of Autonomous Learning Method in Learning Syntax the 5th Semester Students of the English Education Department of the State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga in the Academic Year 2023/2024. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Sari Famularsih, S.Pd.I., M.A. The aims of this study were to find how is the autonomous learning method in learning syntax based on the levels, the modes, and the dimensions. Second objective is to find the students’ difficulties faced by the 5th semester students of the English Education Department of the State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga in the academic year 2023/2024. The study was a qualitative study. Questionnaire, interview, and documentation were the technique of collecting data. The subjects of this study were 20 students from the 5th semester students of the English Education Department of UIN Salatiga in the academic year 2023/2024. Data reduction, data display, and conclusion were the technique of analyzing data. The results of this study shown that the students have been reached the goal of autonomous learning in learning syntax. All of the students are able to reach the second level or involvement level. And 70% of the students are able to reach the high level or transcendence level. Learning syntax is done with four modes of autonomous learning method, distance learning, CALL, tandem learning, and out-of-class learning. The students have been reached all of the autonomous learning dimensions, namely orientation, individual development, enrichment, seminars, and in-depth study. 2) The students build their enthusiasm in learning syntax with the autonomous learning method by three ways, namely by internal motivation, external motivation, and the curiousity about syntax. 3) There are four interesting things of learning syntax with the autonomous learning method. First, the students’ freedom in syntax learning. Second, the learning from the lecturer. Third, the syntax subject itself. And fourth, the interaction in the learning. And there are four positive things of learning syntax with the autonomous learning syntax. First, the learning can grow the students’ independent. Second, the learning can grow the students’ motivation. Third, the learning can make the students know more about their ability. And fourth, the learning is more flexible for the students. 4) The students’ difficulties faced by the 5th semester students in learning syntax with the autonomous learning method are first, the students are still confused in finding, choosing, construct, and understanding their own syntax materials. Second, the students do not understand the materials in detail, so it takes more time to understand it. Third, the students still need the direct guidance from the lecturer, because they still need detailed explanation of the material from the lecturer.
