Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the SQ3R method on students' reading comprehension skills at SMP Dharma Lestari Salatiga. This type of research is a quasi-experimental research with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The subjects of this study were class IX F students at SMP Dharma Lestari Salatiga, totaling 25 students. By dividing 12 students as the control group and 13 students as the experimental class. The data collection technique used is the test method (pre-test and post-test), observation, and documentation. The results showed that the results of the Sig. (2-taled) t-test was 0.000 <0.05, so as a basis for taking the output, it can be concluded that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. So it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the average scores of students' English reading comprehension results between the control and experimental groups. The effectiveness of the SQ3R method is known df = n-2 (0.4762), t-count 57.675 which means the t-count is higher than t-table (57.675> 0.4762) and obtains a significance value of less than 0.05 (0.000 <0.05), which means H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. This shows that the SQ3R method is effective. The result is a significant value of less than 0.05, which means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means that there is an effectiveness of the SQ3R method in learning English. reading at Dharma Lestari Junior High School, Salatiga.
