Abstract

This research aimed: to describe the profile of students' vocabulary mastery in learning simple present tense at Mts N Salatiga in the academic year 2023/2024 and the effectiveness of using pop-up book to improve students' vocabulary mastery. The research was an experimental study. It had two groups: the experimental group and the control group. There were 16 participants in the experimental group and 16 in the control group. The instruments were interviews and tests. Before administering the tests to the students, this study assessed the validity and reliability of test items, followed by normality and homogeneity tests. The researcher used media from the pop-up books for the experiment group and school textbooks and worksheets for the control group for four meetings. The research instrument consisted of pre-test and post-test. The data collected through the examination were analyzed using SPSS version 25. At the end of the research, based on the results of the independent sample t-test, it can be concluded that the researcher's hypothesis that vocabulary mastery can be improved when students use the pop-up book media in learning simple present tense is accepted. A significant effectiveness difference exists between the t-test (6.078) and the t-table (2.131). It suggests that the t-test accepts the alternative hypothesis (Ha). As a result, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. It indicates a difference between before and after treatment using the pop-up books to improve the students' autonomous vocabulary mastery.
