Abstract

Nisa, Fadhilatun. 2023. The Effectiveness of Picture As Medium of Teaching for Students’ Reading Comprehension In Recount Text at The Eighth Grade of MTs Negeri 5 Magelang In The Academic Year 2022/2023. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training And Education Faculty. State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Sari Famularsih, S.Pd.I., M.A. This aims of this research are: (1) to find difference between students reading comprehension before and after using pictures media in recount text. (2) to find effectiveness using pictures media toward students reading comprehension in recount text. The research uses a quantitative research method especially pre-experimental research that only involves one experimental class without a comparison group. In this research, uses score from pre-test and posttest for collecting data. The researcher finds there is a different result reading comprehension in recount text before and after using pictures media. The result before using pictures media can be seen in the result of pre-test score and the result after using pictures media can be seen in the result of post-test score. The average students pre-test is 53.71 meanwhile, in post-test the average students is to find significant differences 81.13. These score show increase score. Besides, from the results, the calculated of the t-test on the data in students’ reading comprehension in the recount text material after and before using pictures media for class VIII of MTs Negeri 5 Magelang and also to find out effective the pictures media in helping students’ reading comprehension in recount text material for class VIII of MTs Negeri 5 Magelang in the academic year 2022/2023. The subject in this research is students of class VIII P who were determined using purposive sampling method. This research in form of Pre- Experimental Research and using one group pre-test and post-test. The population of class VIII in this study was 167 students. A sample out of 31 students for this research. The research instrument used was a test given at the beginning and at the end of the study. The data came from the post-test and pre-test which were then analyzed using t-test. The final result of this research, the authors conclude as follows: From the results of research data analysis, the final results of this research showed that the average data pre-test and post-test. The average value pre-test was 53.71 and post-test average score was 81.13. This shows that the average post-test score after given treatment higher than average pre-test before given treatment. Based on SPSS 24.0 version, the value of sig. (2-tailed) less then 0.005 and t-count > t-table (16.419) > (2.042). Keyword: Reading comprehension, picture, recount text.
