Abstract

ABSTRACT Linda, Elsa. (2023). Analysis of Students’ Motivation in Learning English (A Quantitative Descriptive Study in First Semester Students of PIAUD UIN SALATIGA in the Academic Year 2022/2023). A Graduating Paper, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, English Education Department, State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga. Counselor : Mr. Norwanto, S. Pd., M. Hum., Ph. D. Key Words: Descriptive Quantitative; Motivation; Early Childhood The purpose of the research were: (1) to discover what are the students’ motivation in learning English at the first semester of PIAUD UIN Salatiga, (2) to discover what is the dominant type of motivation in first semester of PIAUD UIN Salatiga. This study was quantitative descriptive. The subjects of the research were first semester of PIAUD students UIN Salatiga. The primary data was from questionnaire. After conducting the research, the researcher found what’s kind of motivation in first semester students’ PIAUD UIN Salatiga such as: intrinsic motivation, regulated identification, regulated introjection, external motivation, and amotivation. The result of the research showed that: there are two dominant types of motivation in learning English of first semester students of PIAUD UIN Salatiga. The first type was Regulated Identification was motivation caused by external regulation. Regulated Identification was dominant because average of PIAUD students, it means most of student was a goals oriented leaner in learning English. Second type was Extrinsic Motivation, it was second dominant type of PIAUD students; it means most of student was a controlled learner in learning English.
