The Effectiveness of Using Word Mapping to Teach Vocabulary Mastery on Descriptive text (Pre-Experimental Study at the Seventh Grade of MTs AL Uswah Bergas in the Academic Year 2022/2023). A Graduating Paper. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. English Education Department. Salatiga State Islamic University. Counselor: Nur Muthmainnah, M. Pd. The research was conducted to determine whether the use of word mapping is effective to teach vocabulary on descriptive text in the seventh grade of MTs Al Uswah Bergas. The research method used was pre-experimental, with pre-test and post-test as an instrument of the research. The sample and respondents of this research was seventh grade students that consisted of 29 students. In this research, data was collected using the test. The pre-test and post-test forms are vocabulary tests that focus on descriptive text. The findings of the research showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test after treatment. The increase in the mean score proves it; the pre-test means the score is 63.59, lower than the post-test mean score is 80.69. Thus, the improvement of the students scores was 27.01%. Based on the results of data analysis, t-test value was 18.412 is higher than the t-table value of 0.367 (18.412>0.367) with degrees of freedom (df) of 28. Meanwhile, the significance value (0.000) is lower than the significance level (0.05), so the hypothesis alternative (Ha) can be assumed to be accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Therefore, the researcher assumed that using word mapping is effective in students’ vocabulary mastery in descriptive text. Keyword: Vocabulary, Word Mapping, Descriptive text
