Abstract

The purpose of the study was aimed to compare student' reading comprehension using Power Point and YouTube Video. The subject of this research were the students of IX A and IX B class of SMPN 2 Salatiga, consisted of 60 students. The methodology of this research was causal comparative between Power Point and YouTube video media. The data was collected by using Pre-test and Post-test with 5 essay question. The results of the students score Pre-test for the Power Point media is 76,866 and Post-test for the Power Point is 90,566. The results of the mean of Pre-test students' score for YouTube Video is 72,500, the Post-test for the YouTube video is 87,400. The mean of students' score using YouTube video is 14,900 and the mean of students' score using Power Point is -13.700. The table states that the higher the min (-) value on the mean shows the higher the difference between the pre-test and post-test, so the more significant the difference. It can also be concluding the students better understand using YouTube media than Power Point. If the sig. (2-tailed) < 0,05, Ha is accepted. It's means there is a significant different the mean scores in the Power Point and YouTube video media. The results of data analysis showed that sig. (2-tailed) is 0,000. If the value of 0,000, it means it less than 0,05, then Ha is accepted. In other words, there is a difference between the mean scores in the Power Point and YouTube video media. Based on the results of this study, the two media have significant difference in results for testing students' reading comprehension. However, YouTube Video is better media to improve students' reading comprehension.
