Abstract

Amelka, Julian Gibran. 2023. Analysis of Students' Difficulties in Listening English Stories Through YouTube (Case Study at SMA Muhammadiyah Plus Salatiga) English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Islam University Salatiga. Counselor :Dr. Mashlihatul Umami, S.Pd.I., MA. Keywords: Listening, English Story'telling, Difficulties. This study aimed to determine the difficulties and factor experienced by students in listening English storytelling through You Tube. The research methodology is descriptive research using qualitative techniques to collect data. Techniques for collecting data were interviews and observation with tenth graders at SMA Muhammadiyah Pus Salatiga. The results of this study indicate that, (1) The difficulty of students in listening to English stories through YouTube because of the lack of students mastering English vocabulary, students who misunderstand the message in the story, students who know the meaning of a word but misinterpret the word if it is in a sentence in the story. (2) the factors that make it difficult for students to listen to English storytelling through YouTube are students who think listening is very difficult to learn, students who have little time to practice listening, classrooms that do not support listening learning, and facilities and infrastructure in schools for listening learning. (3) The solutions made by students, and teachers to overcome difficulties in listening to English stories through YouTube : for students try to practicing listening by English storytelling through YouTube , memorize and learn English vocabulary , and trying to translating a complete sentences into English, and for teacher they must have a speaker portable, make a class condusif so that students are more clear in listening to YouTube storytelling.
