Abstract

ABSTRACT Khoiru Rakhman Abisin, Postgraduate in English Education, State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga, 2023, Title " The Effectiveness of Metacognitive Reading Strategies for Students with different level of motivation to Boost Their Reading Comprehension in Descriptive Text in the Seventh Grade of MTsN Salatiga in the Academic Year of 2022/2023”. Under the guidance of Dr. Setia Rini, M.Pd. This research aims are to know, to analyze and to find the effectiveness of metacognitive reading strategies to boost students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text for students with different level of motivation. This is a Quasi experimental method with factorial design. The research was conducted at MTsN salatiga started from March until May 2023. The population and sample of the research were seventh grade students there are Tahfidz class and Science class consist of 62 students. The writer conducted an analysis of the students’ level of reading motivation with the questionnaire instruments and the result showed there were a different level of reading motivation. The writer found there are level 0 (unmotivated) motivation and Level 5 (Intrinsic) motivation. The writer gave a metacognitive reading strategy for the treatment of experimental class and discovery learning method for the control class. The results showed that the metacognitive reading strategies can boost the reading comprehension in descriptive text, it was proved by the significance different of posttest and pretest for level 0 and level 5 students’ motivation the posttest is higher than pretest after treatment in experiment class, The writer found that the metacognitive reading strategy is effective to boost the students’ reading comprehension in Descriptive text in MTsN Salatiga. It was proved by the N gain score result 86.27% for students with level 0 motivation 87.50% for students with level 5 motivation.
