Abstract

ABSTRACT Khamna, Wakhidatul. 2023. IMPROVING STUDENT’S VOCABULARY MASTERY USING SHORT ENGLISH MOVIE AT THE EIGHT GRADE OF SMP ISLAM AR RAHMAH SURUH. UIN Salatiga Academic year 2022/2023. Keywords : Vocabulary Mastery, Short English Movie The purpose of this research is (1) to find out how using short films in English improves students' vocabulary mastery in the eighth grade of SMP Islam Ar Rahmah Suruh and (2) to find out how to increase the ability to master vocabulary using the Short English Movie method for class students eight SMP Islam Ar Rahmah Suruh The research method that was used is CAR (Classroom Action Research). The research subjects were 25 students of the 8th grade of SMP Islam Ar Rahmah Suruh. This research uses two cycles; each cycle includes planning, action, observation, and reflection. The implementation of short English movies can have an impact on the improvement of students' vocabulary skills. These results can be seen through various data, such as observation results and interview results, which show that students are very enthusiastic and very interested in using Short English Movies to improve their vocabulary. The results of the research show that there is an increase in mastery ability using Short English Movie media. This can be seen from the results of the t- test calculation in Cycle I of 28.5 and Cycle II of 28.94; the t-table with N = 24 is 2.064. There was also an increase in the average percentage of students from Cycle I and Cycle II with a KKM score of 60; in Cycle I, it was 63.6% of the students, and in Cycle II, it was 75.96%. The percentage increase in score from Cycle I to Cycle II was 12.36%. This proves that implementing Short English Movies can improve vocabulary students' skills.
