Abstract

ABSTRACT Matarang, Rendra Aufar Daeng. 2023. The Use of Communicative Language Teaching to speaking Mastery (Pre-Experimental Research of The Eighth Grade Students of SMP Sultan Fattah in the Academic Year 2022/2023). A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Islamic University of Salatiga. Counselor: Nur Muthmainnah, M.Pd. The objective of the study were to know; 1. To know how far is the difference between students’ means scores of pre-tests and post-test using the CLT method at the eighth-grade students of SMP Sultan Fattah Salatiga 2022/2023. 2. To know the effectiveness of the use of CLT method toward students’ speaking mastery at the eighth-grade students of SMP Sultan Fattah Salatiga 2022/2023. The methodology of research was quantitative research, especially an pre- experimental study. The techniques of collecting the data used was pre-test and post-test. The sample of this research was eighth-grade students of SMP Sultan Fattah Salatiga consisting of 23 students. the data were analyzed using SPSS to see the influence of the independent variable toward the dependent variable. The researcher found that there was significant difference between the students’ score in pre-test and post-test that was proved by the mean score that the post-test was higher than mean score in the pre-test. The mean score of pre- test was 49 and the mean score of post-test was 68. Base on the result of paired sample t-test of this research, resulted that the score was 9634 and it is higher than 2.074, Because T0 > Ttable or the values of the t-test results of a variable is greater than the value of the T distribution table. It is assumed that there is an effectiveness between the use of CLT method and students’ speaking mastery towards eighth-grade students of SMP Sultan Fattah Salatiga 2022/2023.
