Abstract

The aims of this research are: (1) To know the students reading comprehension in descriptive text, (2) To know the students' grammar mastery in simple present tense, (3) To know the correlation between students' reading comprehension in descriptive text and their grammar mastery in simple present tense. The research was quantitative correlational research methods. In this research, data collection was carried out using tests; the samples were 32 students of eleventh grade. Technique of analysis data in this research calculating coefficient using Pearson Product Moment in SPPS. The means for students reading comprehension is 72.28 and the students’ reading comprehension is in moderate level. While the means for students' grammar mastery is 67.81 and the students' grammar mastery is in moderate level. The result of this research presented that there is a significant correlation between both of variables. It is proved by the rcount (0.841) is higher than rtable (0.361) in the degree of significance 5% (0.000). It is considered that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. The conclusion of this research showed that students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text and their grammar mastery in simple present tense have a significant correlation. It means that if the students have high scores in reading comprehension, they also have high scores in grammar mastery. So it is important for students to have good reading comprehension skill to get grammar mastery scores as well.
