Abstract

Nuramalia, Putri Nahdia. 2023. The Investigation Pre-Service Teachers’ Anxiety in Teaching English and The Coping Strategies in The Sixth Semester of English Education Department of UIN Salatiga in The Academic Year 2022/2023. A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Islamic University Salatiga. Counselor: Prof. Dr. Sa’adi, M.Ag. The purpose of this study is to find out the sources of pre-service teachers’ anxiety in teaching English before the internship program. Then, this study also examined the possible strategies to overcome teaching anxiety of pre-service teacher before the internship program. The subjects of this study were the students in the sixth semester of English Education Department at UIN Salatiga. The subjects included 30 male and female students, as well as 15 interviewees. This study using the descriptive qualitative approaches. The researcher collected the information from the respondents using questionnaire and interview. The findings of this study, preservice teachers experienced anxiety before the internship program due to various factors. The result revealed that lack of English proficiency, students’ profiles, lack of teaching experience, lack of confidence, teaching evaluation, classroom management, and lack of preparation become the source factors evoking preservice teachers’ anxiety in teaching English before the internship program. Furthermore, pre-service teachers applied personal, professional, social, and institutional strategies to overcome their anxiety in teaching English before the internship program.
