Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out what types of code-switching and code- mixing are used on the englishfess account and to find out what functions of code- switching and code-mixing are often used on the twitter base account. Researcher used descriptive qualitative method with 60 respondents consisting of 35 direct documentation screenshots and 25 questionnaire respondents who were randomly selected through direct messages. From the 35 data of analysis, the Code-Switching found that 1 data used tag switching, 6 data used inter-sentential switching, and 14 used intra-sentential switching. It showed that intra-sentential switching is commonly used in the base account (@englishfess_). Furthermore, data analysis of Code-Mixing performed 5 insertions of words, 7 insertions of phrases, 1 insertion of hybrids, and 1 insertion of reduplications. Based on the data, the people on the base account commonly used the insertion of phrases. From 25 units of data analysis of Code-Switching and Code-Mixing, four reasons are performed in the base account. There are 15 talking about a particular topic, 5 being emphatic about something, 2 interjections, and 3 intention of clarifying the speech content for the interlocutors.
