Abstract

The objectives of the research was to find out the strategies used by the teachers in teaching reading comprehension at the eight-grade of MTs Miftahul Huda Tayu, Pati in the academic year 2023/2024. This research used a descriptive qualitative method in teaching reading comprehension. The technique of collecting data were obtained through observations, interviews, and documentations. This research was conducted at Mts Miftahul Huda Tayu, Pati on August 2023 located at Ratu Kalinyamat Street, No 51 Tayu, Tayu, Kab. Pati. The subjects of this research were three the English teachers of the eight-grade at MTs Miftahul Huda Tayu. The results of the study found that there were three strategies used by the teacher, namely Scaffolding, Question Answer and Relationship (QAR), and Think-Aloud. With Scaffolding strategy, students can develop ideas which readable by the students. Meanwhile, Question Answer and Relationship (QAR) strategy, the teacher can find out how far their students understand what the teacher has given them. And the next strategy used by the teacher is Think-Aloud. The teacher make the students comprehend the text better, finding the main idea, and understanding the vocabulary. In this research, the researcher also find out the obstacles faced by the teachers in implementing those strategies, namely: imperfect preparation, lack of interaction in learning, lack of technology skills, differences in student characters, lack of motivation, lack of adequate facilities, and limited time. And the last is the teachers ways their obstacle in implementing those strategies, namely: creating a structured lesson plan, increase interaction with students, attending training or workshops, using good method, providing motivation, utilizing resources optimally, and giving extra time.
