Abstract

This research was conducted at SMPN 5 Salatiga, focusing on using wordwall application to teach students’ vocabulary. The purpose of this study were to find the students’ profile vocabulary comprehension before and after being taught using wordwall application and to find out the result of the use of wordwall application to teach students’ vocabulary comprehension at the eighth of SMPN 5 Salatiga in the Academic year 2022/2023. The method used in this research is a quantitative method using Quasi-experimental. The technique of collecting data were test and documentation. There were two kinds of test which were used, those were pre-test and post-test. The subject of this research were two classes of the eighth grade students’ at SMPN 5 Salatiga. It considered 58 students’. Purposive sampling was the method of sampling that was applied in this study. Furthermore, the study was conducted using the subsequent procedures: conducting a pre-test, implementing the treatment, and conducting a post-test. The paired sample T-test and the N-gain test were used for the data analysis. Written exams with multiple choice were used to collect the data for this study's analysis. The study's conclusions demonstrated that the mean score for the pre-test (61, 37) was lower than the mean score for the post-test (86, 03). The students’ mean score increased up to 24, 66 points after they learned vocabulary using wordwall application. The T-table (2, 0484) is less than the T-test result (11, 9). At the interval 0.3 ≤ g ≤ 0.7, the N-gain is 0, 63, which puts it in the medium level effectiveness category. Thus, it is obvious that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the wordwall application is effective to teach students’ vocabulary because it shows a significant effect on the students’ vocabulary comprehension in class VIII students’ of SMPN 5 Salatiga.
