The data was collected by written test and document review. In the written test, the teacher gave the students English narrative text to translate into Indonesian and the document review was to find out the equivalence in the translation results made by the students. This research used qualitative method. The result shows that there are five translation methods based on Newmark’s theory. The faithful translation (41%) was the most frequently used, free translation (21%), literal translation (19%), semantic translation (13%), and word-for-word translation (3%). Based on Venuty’s theory, the equivalence is foreignising (76%) and domesticating (21%). Meanwhile, sentences that are not translated and non-equivalent are 3%.
