Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the interest of students in learning to speak English through the Instagram account. One of them in the form of short videos often called Instagram reels on the content of the Kampung Inggris Language Course Instagram account. Speaking is one of the skills that have to be mastered by students in learning English. Speaking is an essential tool for communicating. Improving the speaking abilities of students has always been a concern. Taking into account several aspects of speaking English, namely fluency, vocabulary, grammar and accuracy in pronunciation. Students are expected to increase their interest in learning to speak English through the Kampung Inggris Language Course Instagram account. This study generally answers two questions: 1) How do students perception to learning English through the Kampung Inggris Language Course Instagram account? 2) How does Kampung Inggris Language Course Instagram account function as a resource for learning English? 3) What is behind students' disinterest in learning English through the Kampung Inggris Language Course Instagram account? Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. Twenty Two English Education Department students of UIN Salatiga third semester participated in this study. Questionnaires and interviews were used to collect data. Data is analyzed and interpreted through qualitative procedures. The findings show that students perception in learning English through the Kampung Inggris Language Course account. They want to have various learning topics in learning English in other aspects, such as writing, reading, and listening. The students wanted the videos to be longer in duration. They want to have a variety of learning topics in learning English using the Kampung Inggris Language Course account as a learning medium anywhere and anytime. Students wish to the definition of accuracy and fluency in speaking English as a reference for speaking skills. Keywords: Learners’ Perception, Interest, Instagram, Speaking Skills
