Abstract

The topic of this study is textual meaning analysis in descriptive texts written by the eight grade students of SMP Islam Sudirman Juwangi in the academic year 2021/2022. This study is conducted since students are facing difficulties in doing writing task while having a good writing skill is necessary for academic purposes. This study aimed to figure out how the textual meaning analysis in descriptive texts written by the eight grade students of SMP Islam Sudirman Juwangi also try to identify students’ problems faced in writing descriptive texts. This study is a qualitative research seeking an answer of textual meaning analysis in students’ descriptive texts. The texts are analysed by sentence level. The result showed that the students mostly used simple Theme than multiple Theme. In terms of multiple Theme, students mostly used the textual Theme and there were not found interpersonal Theme and textual-interpersonaltopical Theme in students' descriptive texts. There are some spelling and grammatical problems which mostly found in students descriptive texts. The occurrence of this problems indicates that the writers, in case students, showing inability in developing a coherence text. It can be concluded that the students considered as the beginner writers. Keywords : Writing, Textual Meaning, Theme, Rheme, Descriptive Text.
