Abstract
ABSTRACT Rodliyatun, Mushbihah. 2024. The Development of Teaching Materials for Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and Character Based on Science Literacy to Improve Students' Critical Thinking Skills at Vocational High Schools in Salatiga.. Dissertation, Salatiga: Doctoral Program in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) of UIN Salatiga. Promoter: Prof. Dr. Zakiyuddin, M.Ag.; Co-Promoter: Dr. Fatchurrohman,M.Pd. Keywords: Development, Teaching Materials; Islamic Religious Education and Character; Scientific Literacy; Critical Thinking. Teaching materials for Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and Character based on science literacy (Paikerti Lisains) are crucial in enhancing students' critical thinking skills, as observed from the issues in Vocational High Schools (SMK) and the actual conditions of teachers' and students' needs analysis. This research aims to determine: 1) The level of the need for the development of teaching materials for "Paikerti Lisains"; 2) The concept of developing instructional products; 3) The feasibility of "Paikerti Lisains" teaching materials in improving students' critical thinking skills at SMK in Salatiga. 4) The practicality level of "Paikerti Lisains" teaching materials in enhancing students' critical thinking skills. 5) The effectiveness of the developed "Paikerti Lisains" teaching materials on the level of students' critical thinking skills at SMK in Salatiga. This is the Research and Development (R&D), with the stages of preliminary study, instructional material development, and instructional material validation. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Research instruments include questionnaires to analyze needs, feasibility, and practicality, as well as test instruments for field trials in the form of pretests and post-tests to assess the effectiveness of teaching materials in enhancing students' critical thinking skills. The research findings indicate a significant need for developing "Paikerti Lisains" teaching materials, considering substance, methods, and references from teachers and students. The concept of instructional material development starts from the planning stage to the realization of product development in an attractive, integrative, and comprehensive manner. Based on expert material assessment, the developed teaching materials are considered "very feasible" with a score of 89.5%, and science literacy experts find them "very feasible" with a score of 88%. Based on the evaluations of PAI and Character Education teachers, the practicality percentage of the teaching materials is 90.33%, or deemed "very practical." In addition, students rate it at 88%, which is also considered "very practical." Therefore, it reflects high practicality. The development of teaching materials shows an increase in the effectiveness of students' thinking skills, as evidenced by pre-test and post-test scores. The average pre-test score is 72.27, and the post-test score is 87.07, with a significance value of 0.000, indicating that sig < 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that "Paikerti Lisains" teaching materials effectively enhance the critical thinking skills of 11th-grade students at SMK in Salatiga. v
