Abstract

ABSTRACT Faiz, Henry Anwar. 2024. Students’ Perception towards the Utilization of Quipper School Premium in Training Students’ Reading Skills in MA Al Irsyad Tengaran in Academic Year 2022/2023. State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga Postgraduate Program. Supervisor: Dr. Hanung Triyoko, S.S., M.Hum., M.Ed Keywords: Perception; Quipper School; Reading Skills Reading skills are very important for students to master for their success in learning and everyday lives in society as well as their professional career in the future. The Computer Based Written Test for state university entrance year 2023 or UTBK (Ujian Tertulis Berbasis Komputer) has a new test system which is different from the previous UTBK (The Regulation of Minister of Education and Culture, Number 48, Year 2022), and reading skills in English is one the of the test materials. To train the reading skills in preparing for the entrance test, students in MA Al Irsyad Tengaran voluntary join a paid online learning platform called Quipper School Premium (QSP). The use of technology in providing teaching and learning program is helpful in training students’ reading skills. Technology is necessary to improve the language ability of students simultaneously inside and outside of the educational setting (Chapelle, 2003). The research aimed to find out the perception of students in utilizing QSP in training the students’ reading skills. This study used descriptive qualitative approach. The participants of the research were students of the twelfth grade in the academic year 2022/202 that joined QSP, two teachers as supervising teachers, and the coordinator of the program of the school. The collection of the data was done by interviewing the participants. Then, the data was analyzed using thematic analysis. The validation of the data uses triangulation method. Based on the findings, students can identify and interpret what they find in Quipper School Premium by using their senses of watching, hearing, and touching. In conclusion, students perceive that Quipper School is really helpful in learning reading skills, specifically with the reading skills in preparing for the state university entrance test.
