Abstract

Kurniawati. 2024. The Correlation Between Self-Efficacy and Speaking Skills of SelfIntroduction Among 7TH Grade Students of SMP Dharma Lestari Salatiga in the Cademic Year 2023/2024. A graduating paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Betari Irma Ghasani M.Pd. This research aims to (1) determine the level of self-efficacy of seventh-grade students at SMP Dharma Lestari Salatiga, (2) determine the level of speaking of seventh-grade students at SMP Dharma Lestari Salatiga, and (3) determine the relationship between self-efficacy and speaking skills of self-introduction among seventh-grade students at SMP Dharma Lestari Salatiga in the academic year 2023/2024. This research used a correlational method, involving questionnaires to measure self-efficacy and practical speaking assessments to evaluate speaking skills. The sample consisted of students from classes 7A and 7B at SMP Dharma Lestari Salatiga, selected through cluster random sampling. the result showed that the mean self-efficacy score was 74.24, with a standard deviation of 9.352, indicating that 64% of students had high self-efficacy. The mean score for speaking skills was 79.92, with a standard deviation of 6.685, where 56% of students were in the medium category. The normality test confirmed that the residuals were normally distributed, and the linearity tests indicated a linear relationship between self-efficacy and speaking skills. The multicollinearity test showed no significant multicollinearity. The Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was 0.759, demonstrating a strong positive correlation, with the coefficient of determination (R2) being 0.576, meaning that 57.6% of the variance in speaking skills could be explained by selfefficacy. The p-value was 0.000, confirming the statistical significance of the correlation. This research indicated that higher self-efficacy is associated with better speaking skills in self-introduction among the students, suggesting the importance of fostering self-efficacy to enhance speaking performance. Keywords: Correlation, self-efficacy, and Speaking Skills of Self-Introduction.
