Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected countries worldwide without exception. The tourism sector has been the most heavily impacted due to government lockdowns. However, tourism significantly contributes to foreign exchange earnings in various countries (Wang & Fu, 2023). The fluctuation of the tourism sector is closely intertwined with the aviation and hospitality industries. The pandemic has ended, leaving behind changes in societal behavior that are closely intertwined with technology in various aspects of life, including tourism (Leung et al., 2023). The stakeholders in the aviation, tourism, and hospitality industries must undergo a technological transformation in order to create a competitive advantage. Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain, and the emergence of the metaverse in recent years have been booming technologies in this regard. Undoubtedly, this will also pose a challenge that needs to be addressed by the stakeholders in these sectors (Buhalis et al., 2023; Monaco & Sacchi, 2023). Hence, stakeholders must keep up with technological advancements and travelers’ behaviors to understand the industry’s current bargaining position and devise future strategies.
