Abstract

The objectives of this research are to find out the profile of students before and after using dictogloss technique on English vocabulary mastery in the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 7 Salatiga and to find out the effectiveness of using dictogloss technique influences the students’ vocabulary in the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 7 Salatiga. This research used a true experimental study. The population was 60 students. The samples were 31 students of the experimental class and 29 students of the control class. The researcher used tests as the data instrument. The researcher used the N gain to analyze the data, and the N gain was used to determine the significance of the data. As a result, the pre-test data showed an average difference between the experimental class (m=58.26) and the control class (m=51.00). After the treatment, the post-test value in the experimental class was higher (m=86.87) and in the control class (m=77.62). After carrying out the treatment, significant results were obtained based on the t-test value. The value of the t-test was < 0.001, which was lower than the significant value (0.05). The Sig is known as 0.001< 0.05, and it can be concluded that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the average learning outcomes of students in the experimental class group using the dictogloss technique. Then, based on the N gain value, it was proven that the treatment used was effective, with a value is 0.68. So, it can be concluded that this value is included in the medium category which is in the quite effective category. Thus, it can be concluded that the dictogloss technique significantly improved the English vocabulary of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Salatiga in the academic year 2023/2024.
