Abstract

The purpose of the study is to find out evidences about the influence of Dictogloss Technique on the students' writing ability in composing descriptive text at the VIII grade students of MTsN Salatiga. This kind of study is quantitative research using true-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The experimental class received treatment by using the Dictogloss Technique to write descriptive text. Meanwhile, the control class received the Environmental Observation Technique to write descriptive text. Each class consist of 32 students from eighth grade students of MTsN Salatiga. To collect the data, researcher used written test as the instrument. Pre-test was given before the treatment and post-test was given after the treatment. From the data, the average score obtained by the experimental class being higher than the control class which did not use the Dictogloss Technique. The results of tcount greater than ttable at the 5% significance level (2,150 > 1.669). Therefore, in this study the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. This means that the Dictogloss Technique has a significant influence on students' writing ability in composing descriptive text at the eighth-grade students of MTsN Salatiga in the academic year 2023/2024.
