Abstract

This research focuses on examining the flouting of the conversational maxims in Cruella movie. It also investigate the reason of flouting maxims showed by the characters in this movie. This research applied Grice flouting maxim theory to conduct the research. The methodology of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The research data were the utterances that flout the maxims. The result show there are 23 utterances that flout the maxim. The most frequently flout is the maxim of manner, and the least frequently flout is the maxim of quality. Furthermore, the research finds that the reason of flouting maxim is depends on the situation. Some of the reasons are to avoid further conversation, to show dominance, to avoid conflict, and others.
