Abstract

Wardhani, Nava Puspa. 2024. The Relation of Self-Concept and Self-Directed Learning of the Ninth Grade Students at SMPN 3 Salatiga in the Academic Year 2024/2025. A Graduating Paper. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. English Education Department. State Islamic University of Salatiga. Counselor: Norwanto, Ph.D. The aims of this study are: (1) to find out the profile of self-concept, (2) to find out the profile of self-directed learning, and (3) to determine whether there is a relationship between self-concept and self-directed learning. This study is a quantitative correlational study. This study took a sample of 60 students. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire. The results of the study showed that: (1) the value of students' self-concept is in the range of 39–47, (2) the value of self-directed learning is in the range of 37–47. From the descriptive statistical test results, self-concept and self-directed learning in students are in the medium category. (3) based on the results of the product-moment correlation, the calculated r-count is greater than the r table (0.780 > 0.254), and the significance value is 0.000, which means it is less than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05), then Ho is rejected, and Ha is accepted. Based on the calculation results, there is a strong and significant relationship between self-concept and self-directed learning. In other words, as self-concept changes, self-directed learning will also change significantly. If students' self-concept is at a high level, then students' self-directed learning is also at a high level and vice versa. Keyword: Self-Concept, Self-Directed Learning
