Abstract

This study aims to find out how the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in the English subject at Junior High School 2 Bringin. The aspects analysed include: the concept, implementation, as well as the outcome of the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in the English subject of Junior High School 2 Bringin. This study uses a phenomenological educational ethnography. Data collection was carried out using interview techniques, questionnaires and documentation studies which were then analysed by reducing data, presenting, and then concluding. Checking the validity of the data is done by using the source and triangulation method. Based on the research results, (1) Junior High School 2 Bringin has implemented the Independent Change (Mandiri Berubah) concept in the Independent Curriculum, which focuses on student learning independence, aiming to create an innovative and adaptive learning environment for the development of the times. (2) Implementation of the Independent Curriculum in English subjects at Junior High School 2 Bringin went well, especially in terms of diagnostic assessments and differentiated learning process. The study results showed that diagnostic assessments support learning adjustment according to students' characteristics and needs, creating an inclusive and responsive learning environment. Differentiated learning process based on assessment results also help teachers design more effective and personalized strategies. (3) The outcome of the implementation of English learning in the Independent Curriculum generally has a good result on students. Most students feel supported and comfortable using the teaching method, especially with exceptional assistance and additional time for students with learning difficulties.
