Abstract

ABSTRACT Inggil, Dara, 2024, THE USE OF TONGUE TWISTER TECHNIQUE MEDIATED BY NATURAL READER TO TEACH STUDENTS’ PRONOUNCIATION. Keywords : Tongue Twister, Natural Reader, Pronunciation The purpose of this study was to determine the profile of students’ pronunciation skills before and after tongue twister mediated by Natural Reader instruction, as well as the effectiveness of tongue twister instruction in teaching pronunciation to ninth-grade students at SMP N 3 Salatiga during the academic year 2024/2025. The quantitative true experimental methodology was used in this research. The data were obtained through oral tests. There was a pre-test and a post-test for this test. The study included two class groups. The experimental class group received tongue twister instruction, whereas the control class group received the “repeat after me” technique. The study was conducted at SMP N 3 Salatiga’s ninth grade. The sample included 32 students from IX G, the experimental class group, who were taught with a tongue twister mediated by Natural Reader, and 30 students from IX H, the control class group, who were taught with “repeat after me” technique. Purposive sampling was utilized as the sampling approach. In addition, the following processes were employed to execute the research: administering a pre-test, executing a treatment plan, and administering a post-test. The data were collected and analyzed using the t-test. The study’s findings revealed both groups, whether taught with or without a tongue twister-mediated Natural Reader, showed significant improvement. The experimental group performed better than the control group. It can be argued that employing a tongue twister mediated by Natural Reader as a medium is more successful for teaching students pronunciation in class because there is a significant improvement.
