Abstract

Counselor: Noor Malihah, S.Pd., M.Hum., Ph.D. This research was conducted to describes the generic structure in narrative text written by the 10th grade students of SMA N 3 Salatiga in academic year 2023/2024. The aims of this research were: (1) To analyze the students’ ability in writing narrative text based on its generic structure at the 10th grade students of SMA N 3 Salatiga in academic year of 2023/2024. (2) To identify the most common students’ writing ability found in the 10th grade students of SMA N 3 Salatiga in academic year of 2023/2024. This research employed descriptive quantitative research design to describe and analyse the data taken by 26 narrative texts assignment written by students. There are 26 samples from 112 populations. The researcher employed cluster random sampling technique in this research. The researcher used rubric assessment to assess students’ narrative texts. The results of this research found that, in general, each student creates narrative texts of many forms, there are narrative text with complete generic structure, narrative text without orientation and incorrect resolution, and narrative text with blended generic structure. From 26 students there are 16 students that wrote the narrative text with complete generic structure. From 26 students there is only 1 does not write the orientation paragraph and the resolution paragraph is incorrect. While there are 8 students that wrote the narrative text with blended generic structure. Although, the accumulation of generic structure analysis of content is there are 16 students who got score 4 (61.5%), there are 9 students who got score 3 (34.6%), there is 1 student who got score 2 (3.8%). The most common students’ writing ability found in the 10th grade students of SMAN 3 Salatiga. After the researcher analysed the overall data obtained, the researcher concluded that from 26 student’s narrative text assignments, the percentage of 4 score is 61.5%. Thus, result of data analysis of students’ ability in writing narrative text at the 10th grade of SMA N 3 Salatiga was categorized into Excellent.
