Abstract

Khoirunnisa, Puput. 2025. “The Effectiveness of Mnemonic Technique on Vocabulary Mastery (A Pre Experimental Research of the S​eventh Grade Students at SMP Islam Plus At Tohari Tuntang in Academic Year 2024/2025)”. A graduating paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Noor Malihah, S.Pd., M.Hum., Ph.D. The objectives of this research are: (1) To find out the profile of the seventh grade at SMP Islam Plus At Tohari Tuntang in academic year 2024/2025 student’s vocabulary mastery before and after using mnemonic technique. (2) To find out the effectiveness of mnemonic technique in teaching vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade at SMP Islam Plus At Tohari Tuntang in academic year 2024/2025. This research used a pre-experimental research design with a pre-test and post-test group. The total number of the research subjects was 23 students. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests using multiple choice questions, totaling 10 items, which had been tested for validity and reliability. The research data were analysed using SPSS 30 version. The results of this research showed that there was a difference between the mean score of the pre-test and post-test. The mean score of the post-test was higher than the mean of the pre-test (75.22 > 60.00). Then, the t-test showed the value of tcount (4.585) was higher than ttable (2.074) and the significance value is 0.001 wich lower than 0.05. This means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the mnemonic technique is effective in teaching English vocabulary on the seventh grade students at SMP Islam Plus At Tohari Tuntang in the academic year 2024/2025. The implementation of the mnemonic technique was effective in helping vocabulary mastery learning activities. The students feel more enjoyment and enthusiasm in learning because the mnemonic technique makes it easier for students to remember vocabulary. Keywords: Mnemonic Technique, Vocabulary Mastery
