Abstract
This study aims to determine the profile of students' vocabulary mastery before and after using the jigsaw technique and to identify the effectiveness of the Jigsaw technique in teaching vocabulary mastery on descriptive texts to seventh-grade students at SMPN 5 Salatiga in the academic year 2024/2025. The research applied a quantitative experimental with a quasi-experimental method, using a pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 60 students selected through purposive sampling from a population of 254 students. The instruments used were test question and documentation. The results of the study show that the students using the jigsaw technique showed a significant improvement. The average post-test score in the experimental class group was 74.22, compared to 61.77 in the control class group. The result of the Independent Sample T-Test showed that tcount 3.544 > ttable 2.002 and Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.001 < 0.05, indicating that the jigsaw technique had a significant effect. Furthermore, the average N-Gain score of the experimental class group was 0.45, which falls in the medium effective, while the control class group using the Think Pair Share method only achieved an average N-Gain score of 0.04 (low effective). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the jigsaw technique is effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery on descriptive texts in the seventh grade of SMPN 5 Salatiga in the academic year 2024/2025.
