Abstract

Supervision is done by the supervisor of Islamic religious education has a very important role in administering education. One of the efforts to improve the professional competence of teachers of Islamic Religious Education is through teaching that is done by the supervisor. Via a teaching supervision, the supervisor of Islamic Religious Education is expected to increase the professional competence of the teachers become better than before. The purpose of the research is to find out (1) The extent of the contribution of the implementation of the supervision carried out by the supervisor of Islamic religious education in boosting the professional competence of teachers of Islamic religious education in Salatiga. (2) The supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of supervision to enhance the professional competence of the teachers of Islamic Religious Education in Salatiga. This study used a qualitative approach. The research was done in the vocational schools in Salatiga. The subject of this study is the Islamic Religious E ducation Supervisor of Vocational Schools and the object of the research is the teaching activity which is done by the supervisor of Vocational Schools in Salatiga City. While the informants in this research are the Heads of the vocational schools, Heads Of Religious Education and Islamic Religious Section of the Ministry Of Religions in Salatiga, and the Islamic Religious Education of Vocational School Teachers in Salatiga City. The data collection technique of this study is using interviews, observati ons and documentations. Testing the validity of the data obtained is using the triangulation methods and sources. While the data analysis technique is using an interactive models, data reductions, data presentations and withdrawal conclusions. The research concludes that: (1) the supervisory contributions made by the Islamic Religious E supervisor in improving the professional competence of teachers of Islamic Religious Education of vocational schools in Salatiga city is less than the maximum because the level of supervisory presence in giving a supervision on average is only once a semester. Ironically, the guidance material of supervision is more be emphasized in checking the teaching administration. The supervisor rarely conducted classroom visits ; supervision of Islamic Religious Education Teachers is more done in the principal's office. (2) The factors that supporting the supervision were the experience as a supervisor and became a teacher of Islamic Religious Education in a sufficient time, and also got a support from various parties in conducting guidance to Islamic Religious Education Teachers. While inhibiting factors of carrying out a supervision was a large workload. A supervisor ought to supervise more than 50 Islamic Religious Education Teachers of SMP/MTs , SMA/MA and SMK. In addition, sometimes a supervisor found teachers who had not made a lesson plan, so they were less ready to accept the supervision given. Often, a supervisor did a supervision suddenly which caused the teacher did no t respond the supervision well. Therefore, the supervisory activities of the Islamic Religious Education Supervision should in optimized.
