Abstract

Azzahra, Sheika Rohmatul. 2025. The Effectiveness of Teaching Simple Present Tense Using Tic-Tac-Toe Game of the Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 7 Salatiga in the Academic Year 2024/2025. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Islamic University of Salatiga. Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Sa'adi, M.Ag. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using a tic-tac-toe game in teaching simple present tense to seventh grade students. This study used a pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test to measure students' learning outcomes in Simple Present Tense. The population consisted all of the seventh grade students of SMPN 7 Salatiga with a total of 221 students and the samples were taken using purposive sampling technique so that Class VII A with a total of 31 students was obtained as the experimental group. The research instruments used in this study were test questions (pre-test and post-test) consisting of 15 multiple choice questions. Based on the results of the test data analysis using an paired sample t-test, the rcalculated (2.541) is greater than the rtable (2.048), with a significance value of 0.016 < 0.05. Therefore, H₀ is rejected, and H₁ is accepted. This finding indicates that learning through the tic-tac-toe game is effective in teaching the Simple Present Tense. Keywords: Tic-Tac-Toe game, Simple Present Tense, pre-experimental, English language teaching, interactive learning.
