Abstract

This research aims to improve the descriptive text writing skills of seventh-grade students at SMP IT Nida’ul Hikmah Salatiga through the use of comic strips in a process writing approach. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) in two cycles. The results show that comic strips help students in planning and composing texts, facilitate idea development, and enhance student engagement and independence. Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test in both Cycle I and Cycle II, the students’ average scores increased consistently. In Cycle I, the average score rose from 51.36 to 73.18, and in Cycle II, it increased further to 83.41. based on observation field notes, the main supporting factors were students’ enthusiasm, the engaging nature of comic strips, and the structured process writing stages that helped guide their learning. However, some obstacles were also found, such as students’ limited vocabulary, difficulties in grammar usage, and time constraints during the revision process. Keywords: comic strips, process writing approach, writing skills, descriptive text, classroom action research.
