Abstract
Fitrianingsih, Elyta Nurul Ihza. 2025. Analysis of Foreign Students’ Difficulties in Translating Questions from English into Bahasa Indonesia (A Qualitative Case Study in Pelangi Nusantara Language School of Salatiga). A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Sari Famularsih, M.A. This study analyze the difficulties faced by foreign students, particularly English speakers, in translating questions from English into Bahasa Indonesia at Pelangi Nusantara Language School in Salatiga. The study aims to identify the common problems and explore the factors that contribute to their difficulties in translating question from English into Bahasa Indonesia. A qualitative case study approach was used, involving eight participants from different states in the United States. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and documentation. Triangulation was applied to validate the credibility of the data. The findings indicate that the students’ difficulties are primarily caused by structural differences between English and Bahasa Indonesia, such as the use of auxiliary verbs, question markers, and word order. Additionally, contributing factors include limited vocabulary, cultural differences, and misunderstanding the purpose of the question. These insights highlight the need for more targeted teaching approaches in helping foreign learners understand and use Bahasa Indonesia question forms more effectively. Keywords: Foreign students, English into Bahasa Indonesia question, language learning difficulties in translation.
