Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of implementing the scientific approach supported by Mediadidik as a supplementary digital medium on the writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA N 2 Salatiga in the 2024/2025 academic year. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was used, involving two classes: one taught through the scientific approach supported by Mediadidik as a digital learning medium, and the other through a contextual approach. Writing performance was assessed using pretests and posttests across five aspects: content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. The results showed that the experimental group achieved a slightly higher posttest mean score (80.93) compared to the control group (79.28), and a higher N-Gain score (0.227 vs. 0.186), although both were categorized as low. However, the Mann–Whitney U test indicated no statistically significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.178 > 0.05). Although the statistical analysis showed no significant difference, the descriptive data revealed a positive trend in writing improvement among students taught using the scientific approach supported by Mediadidik. The integration of digital media appeared to enhance student engagement and provide more structured exposure to the stages of the scientific approach, particularly in tasks involving observation and communication. These findings highlight the potential of incorporating digital learning tools as a complement to pedagogical methods, rather than as stand-alone strategies. Future studies are recommended to apply this approach over longer durations, with broader samples and varied language skills, to further explore its impact.
