Abstract
Hapsari, R. A. (2025). THE INFLUENCE OF READING SKILL AND TRANSLATING ABILITY TO WRITING MASTERY OF PARAGRAPH BASED WRITING (A Correlation Study of the Third Semester Students of English Education Department). A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Islamic University of Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Ruwandi, S.pd., M.A. This study aimed to investigate the correlation among reading skill, translating ability, and writing mastery on paragraph-based writing. Employing a quantitative method with a correlative design, this research involved 2021 English Education Department students at UIN Salatiga as the sample. The findings from SPSS analysis revealed a significant positive influence of reading skill on writing mastery, contributing 8.9% (T-statistic = 0.000, p < 0.05). Similarly, translating ability significantly contributed 0.3% to writing mastery (T-statistic = 0.000, p < 0.05). When combined, reading skill and translating ability simultaneously contributed 9.2% to paragraph-based writing mastery, with a significant F-statistic of 0.008 (p < 0.05). These results lead to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha), confirming that both reading and translating abilities, individually and jointly, positively impact students' paragraph-based writing proficiency. Although this study found significant relationships, relevant research gaps remain to be explored, such as effective writing methods, strategies to enhance student writing interest, and other factors influencing writing ability (e.g., psychological factors, motivation, and learning and teaching methods), which can serve as a basis for future research. Key Words : Reading Skill, Translating Ability, Writing Mastery, Paragraph-Based Writing.
